of Louise Tækker's thesis
The dissertation is concerned with the psychological aspects of patients undergoing bariatric surgery in the hope of generating knowledge of the subgroups vulnerable for a poor surgery outcome. The key method in the exploration of the subject is a psychosocial assessment of the pre-bariatric participants in the study. Among other things this includes an assessment of pre-operative binge eating disorder, expectations to the outcome of surgery and the general psychiatric symptom load.
The dissertation discusses how weight as the only outcome measure of bariatric surgery is insufficient, and highlights the need for enhanced pre- and –post operative care regimes for high risk patients.
