The Virtual Learning Lab (VLL) investigates learning with immersive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality.

To take a significant step towards truly understanding how people learn, we focus on combining laboratory research with experiments in real-life educational settings. Specifically, we focus on how, when, why, and who benefits from immersive lessons. The goal of our research is to develop evidence-based knowledge that can enhance the learning effectiveness of immersive lessons. By guiding instructional designers to develop learning material more optimally, teachers to integrate immersive lessons successfully, and clearly define targeted learning outcomes, we strive to explore the full potential of immersive technologies.

VLL is an interdisciplinary research group spanning across Educational psychology, Work and Organizational psychology, Psychometrics, Behavior change, Sustainability, Multimedia learning and Digital innovation. We collaborate with some of the leading educational technology companies and teachers to investigate how immersive technology influences learning, motivation, and interest in authentic classroom settings and workplaces. Specifically, we engage in design and content development of simulations, implementation of virtual technologies in educational settings, as well as development and validation of psychological scales.
