Bridging Psychology and Epidemiology to Advance Trauma Research
Inaugural lecture by Professor Karen-Inge Karstoft.
Abstract
Bad things happen - and they happen to many of us. Trauma research asks important questions: When does a difficult experience become a traumatic event? How common are such experiences? And why do some people, but not others, go on to develop mental health problems afterward? In this talk, I will share findings from diverse populations that illustrate these questions (and hopefully give some answers). I will also highlight why advancing trauma research requires bringing together the strengths of both psychology and epidemiology - uniting individual perspectives with population-level insights to better understand trauma and its consequences.

The lecture is followed by a reception at the Department of Psychology, Øster Farimagsgade 2A, room 03.2.M202, 1353 Copenhagen.
